Rocks Monitoring

Optical fibers could be adopted within early warning systems for the real-time detection of pre-failure deformations of slopes consisting of brittle materials (fractured rocks, overconsolidated clays, loose pyroclastic soils and so on).
In fractured rock slopes, a monitoring system can be obtained by deploying sensing fiber cables by means of anchors located in such a way as to allow the monitoring of single block movements.

A reliable system should exploit reinforced fiber cables.

An advanced system may use optical fiber instrumented Rockslide protection.
Taking advantage of both versatility and high spatial resolution of the system, large sloping areas can be carefully monitored.
